Fascia is a type of connective tissue which encapsulates and supports most of the structures of the body, including all of the muscles, organs, and even bones. It is of one continuous piece, connecting all the different parts of the body in its supportive web. Therefore, restrictions in the fascia can impact the function of any part of the anatomy, sometimes even in a completely different area of the body than the restriction itself. Myofascial release encourages these restriction to soften and release by exerting a gentle, but firm and steady sustained pressure on the tissues.
